(Interview with Flaimahmy, July 23, 2009)
FM: You have three children. How do you get them to eat properly so as to avoid one of your very personal concerns, childhood obesity?
SW: We do not eat a lot of junk foods. I know that you cannot totally restrict all junk. Every now and then we will have cookies and things like that. For the most part I eat healthy and my kids eat healthy because I am going to make sure that they eat right. I do not refuse to buy ice cream or cookies every now and then because they’re kids. My kids are very active as well. My son plays football. My daughter takes dance. They get a lot of exercise.
FM: Do you think your fame from The Housewives has in any way been in conflict with your personal life as a mom?
SW: No, absolutely not. My kids and I have a great relationship. Being on the Show definitely has not hurt that at all. We still have family time together. We spend lots of time together. Actually, now it’s like I’m the cool mommy. I was always the cool mom but now a lot of their friends are watching the Show and the’re saying “I saw your mom on tv!” My kids are even cooler at school now because their mom is on tv.
FM: As a single mom what advice can you share with other single moms out there when it comes to their children and relationships?
SW: Being a single mom you always have to keep your kids first. Keep God and your kids first and focus on your kids and your family. A lot of times when women and men breakup they are very bitter and they may say negative things about the other. You cannot do that. I would say do not do that. Never speak negatively around your children about your ex. Focus and believe. Dream big. Of course, it’s hard on a lot of families but you cannot harp on the negative. Personally, I do not think kids need to see the negative aspects of a divorce. I try to stay positive around them and still think positive about their dad.
FM: You are a designer. You have “She by Sheree.” During these hard economic times there are children whose parents cannot afford the designer labels. What do you teach your children about those who are less fortunate, especially when it comes to clothes because children are often teased for their clothing?
SW: My kids are not into designers. It’s usually the parents who are buying all the designer labels for their kids. All my son needs is a t-shirt and some shorts and we can get that from Target or Gap. Everything does not need to be bought at Saks or Nieman’s or the higher brand stores. Target makes great quality and they knock-off prices on a lot of things that designer stores do not.
FM: After you became a mother what style tip did you pick up that helped you maintain your “flyness?”
SW: After I became a mother?
FM: Yes, because you lose time; time goes out the window and you pick up quick tips to keep yourself looking good.
SW: After you become a mother some of the things you used to wear you cannot wear anymore. I try to keep it classy. I still like to be a little sexy. But, you don’t have to be naked to be sexy. You can still have a sexy dress and be fully covered. I am still a mom so I’m going to dress appropriately.
FM: Right now what is your favorite style trend that’s coming up for the fall?
SW: For the fall I’m loving draping. I’m loving draping on all the dresses, the pants and the tops.
FM: We consider you a Flymommy. In your own words, what do you think makes you a Flymommy?
SW: I think it comes from within. You are who you are. I feel confident in who I am and in what I’m wearing. I think sexiness comes from within. I can’t wear everything everyone else is wearing just as everyone cannot wear the things that I can wear. I like to be confident. I like to be sexy. I like classic but I like to be a little edgy every now and then.
