Going back to the Basics: Finding the right Undergarments
The truth is underwear can make or break your outfit. Muffin tops, nipple shows, and sagging “girls” will never make you look like a Fly-Mommy. So let’s break down the Underwear Basics!
Get a proper fit!
Know your proper bra size. I recommend every time you purchase new bras you get measured to make sure you are wearing your correct size. As I am sure you know, having a baby will change your “girls” a bit and they will probably continue to change throughout your life. So while you may have worn a 36c for the past 6 years, you need to get remeasured to make sure you still wear that size.
Understand your garment. Is it strapless? Form fitting? Sheer?
For those crisscross, strapless, and halter garments, I recommend using a convertible bra. Everywoman should own a convertible bra (preferably two, one in black, and one in nude). It’s a MUST.
Need to hide a little post pregnancy tummy? Try a body shaper. A lot of people swear by Spanx (I never tried them but, I hear they are all the rage).
I personally just wore a regular girdle (Yes, a girdle) I found at Macy’s for the first few weeks after having my daughter. I actually liked wearing it because it gave me much needed support for my post pregnancy tummy.
Sheer garments can be tricky. Stark white or black underwear under sheer clothes is always a no no. The correct solution is to find nude undergarments (nude meaning as close to your skin tone as possible) that creates the illusion that your garment isn’t sheer. If everything under your sheer clothes is the same color, no one will be able to tell it’s actually sheer.
For those form fitting garments, avoid panty lines by wearing a thong, or for those Mommies who need a little bit more comfort, boy shorts.
And finally, when in doubt about what to wear under your clothes, try it on. You can always decide what you need to wear when you take time to see what you need to wear!
Happy Shopping!
