How to travel with a little one and still look fabulous!

By Kai

travelBefore becoming a mother, whenever I traveled, I always made sure I was pulled together from head to toe because traveling is always a great opportunity for networking.  You never know who you might meet.

Well, as I’m sure all of you mothers know, once you have a child being “pulled together” takes on a completely new meaning.  Children have the incredible power to make even the most polished woman look like she just climbed out of bed, especially when traveling!  But not to worry,  I have some tips I picked up to keep you Fly Mommies looking great even when traveling with your little ones!

Wear clothes that are either dark colored or patterned.  You want to make sure what you wear doesn’t show spills or stains easily.  It is almost a certainty that  a child  is going to spill on you so you want to make sure those little spills, smears, and splatters don’t show up.

Dress in layers.  Trust me this saved me once. My baby girl once vomited all over me in the last five minutes of our flight; luckily I was dressed in layers.  I wore a tank top with a tunic blouse over it.  After she threw up I removed the tunic. When we got off the plane only the passenger next to us had any idea what happened.

In your carry-on pack an extra shirt, or an extra outfit for long flights.  If an accident happens you will be able to do a quick change.

Take a headband, or scarf.  Traveling can easily wreak havoc on your hair, and traveling with a child is a double whammy.  If you have a headband or scarf you can pull your hair back or in a pinch whip it up in a chic ponytail.

Wear comfortable shoes! You are going to be doing a lot of walking, carrying, bending, pushing etc.  So comfortable shoes are a must. Choose a pair of cute flats, or wedges if you are like me, so you can move quickly and easily.

And finally,  bring your favorite face mist, lip gloss, and mascara. Use the lip gloss and mascara as needed.  Apply your face mist when you reach your destination to refresh your face. Traveling with a child really doesn’t give you much time for a beauty routine, but these three items will make you look like you just stepped out of a magazine!

Happy Travels!!!

Great tips! I never thought about the dark clothes or layering…I will definitely be using the dressing advice on our next trip. I get so OCD about when Syd eats and makes a mess sometimes that I usually choose foods that aren’t too messy for her to eat while traveling. Especially in the car. I always said that I wasn’t going to be one of those mom’s with the messy, crumb filled, stained care seats, lol. But yeah, great advice!
