Exercising With Your Little One….
America is the most obese country in the world. We eat unhealthy oversized portions and the most greasy, fattening foods. Because of this, many die each year of heart attacks, diabetes and other illnesses that can be avoided. Exercising is not only great for adults; it is good for kids too. Getting your child on the path of being healthy cannot start soon enough and teaching them early to exercise will follow them to adulthood.
Here are a few steps to get your little one started on the healthy path to fitness:
- Start slowly with just simple stretching exercises and have your little one join you.
- Play music and dance around the house. This will not only be fun but it will also be great exercise for you and your little one.
- When it’s nice outside go outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. Kick and toss a ball around or just play tag in the yard.
- Start short walks with your little one. Each day make the walk a little longer.
- Put the video games and TV aside and play interactive games.
- Talk to your child about the importance of being healthy. Try to follow healthy steps yourself and watch your child follow your lead.
- Incorporate plenty of fruits and veggies into you and your child’s diet.
- Try to stay away from fried fattening foods. Instead bake or grill your food, it tastes just as good with less the fat.
- Get your child involved in activities outside the home such as: swim class, gym or other physical activities.
Remember that being healthy is not just something that happens overnight. It has to be a lifestyle change, one that you are committed too. It’s okay to have the so called “bad foods” sometimes, but everything must be in moderation. You get just one body, so be sure to cherish and take care of the one you have!
